Drip, drip, drip
All the markets went sideways after they all went up yesterday.
The only exception was the Bond market which increased interest rates again as a warning that inflation is still coming our way.
Also, gasoline continues to power forward, setting a new high each and every day. Yuch….
In the news today….
Merrill Lynch announced it was going to write off an additional $6.5B, and lay off 3000 employees. This brings to the total of $29B that Merrill has written off.
Drip, drip, drip, drip, drip,,,,,, Sort of like a Chinese water torture.
Here are the numbers:
Dow Jones 30 Industrial - 12,620 (Up 1 points)
10 Year Treasury Bond - 3.73% (Up 0.03%)
Euro - $1.5909
Gold - $943 (Down $5)
Oil - $114.86 (Down $0.07) - but hit another all time high of $115.04.
Gasoline - $2.96 (Up $0.02) - Gasoline keeps moving up, up, up, up….!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Another example of rising costs:
Delta’s policy currently allows two (2) checked bags at no charge. Effective May 5th, the allowance will be reduced to one (1) bag which weighs 50 pounds or less and does not exceed 62 inches length plus height. The fee for a second bag is $25.00; third through fifth bags are $80.00, etc. Excess weight fees are increasing to $80.00. Excess size fees are increasing to $150.00. Business Elite and First Class passengers are allowed 3 checked bags at no charge up to 70 lbs.
United new policy applies to travelers with non-refundable Economy Class tickets purchased after February 4th for travel on or after May 5th. Travelers may check one (1) bag at no charge and a second bag for $25.00. Subsequent bags will cost $100.00 per bag. United customers with Premier status (Mileage Plus or Silver status with Star Alliance) are exempt from these fees. The number of bags these customers are allowed to check at no charge will continue to be stipulated by their Mileage Plus status and/or class of service flown.
Thanks Darrin. You are absolutely right. This is another sign of the inflation creeping through the economy. In this case the airlines are getting hit hard again with their fuel costs, and they’re trying to be creative in passing the cost along to you.
