Iranian Wild Card

Iran Invades Iraq – Wild Card???

One small newsworthy article that hit the press a week ago was when Iran invaded an oil field in Iraq and raised their flag over this disputed area on the Iran/Iraq border.

Why did they do this?  To be provocative?  I don’t think so.  I think they were sending a message to the west.

Iran knows that the west is thinking about gasoline sanctions for one thing to do about Iran’s nuclear bomb.  This would be catastrophic to Iran, and they know it.  The US also said that the timeframe to destroy Iran’s nuclear facilities was the end of 2009 (that’s right now) and it might be extended to January 15th.

So, the world should be on pins and needles, but it isn’t – if you read the press.

Iran purposely invaded Iraq to tell the west that any bombing in Iran would be dealt with force.  Iran can close the Straits of Hormuz with mines and ship/shore missiles.  These would be the first targets of any nuclear facility bombing.  Iran can also cause internal strife in Iraq – through the Sunnis.  Iran can also have the Hezbolah attack Israel.  These are Iran’s weapons.  Which will they use?  Who knows.  But, they do want everyone to know that they can do something.

Food for thought.
